Built along the Santa Cruz River, Haven Golf Course offers scenic views of the Santa Rita Mountains. Built in 1967, it is Green Valley’s oldest golf course and the only course in the area where walking is allowed. The landscape is covered with mature pines, palms, and eucalyptus trees. There are water hazards and strategically placed bunkers coming into play, but overall the golf course has an enjoyable, player-friendly layout. In addition to the 18-hole course, the Haven Golf G.C. facility features a nine-hole, par-3 golf course called Tortuga. There is also a complete practice facility with all-grass hitting stations that provides excellent short game practice.

The Conquistador Course is the El Conquistador’s premiere course, providing golfers of all skill levels with a challenging game. Located at the base of the Santa Catalina Mountain Range, the course also provides beautiful mountain and canyon views. Although the surrounding terrain is desert, landscaping around the fairways and forests of mesquite trees give the feel of a parkland course. The par-5 fifth hole is a good example of the difficulty of the course. The hole features a lake and bunkers protecting the two-tiered green. The signature hole of the course is the 16th, though. It features 16 strategically placed bunkers and also offers scenic views of Pusch Ridge.

Located in Green Valley just a short drive south of Tucson, lies San Ignacio Golf Club. An Arthur Hills design, San Ignacio features well placed grass bunkers, dynamically shaped Bermuda fairways and some of the smoothest greens in Arizona. Known for the friendly nature of the course and the staff, San Ignacio is a favorite among the locals from the retirement community of Green Valley and nearby Tucson. The way the course rests naturally among the canyons, ridges and arroyos of the Santa Cruz River Valley pays tribute to the desert and the commanding views of the surrounding mountains. But be aware, the course can play very tight and any errant shot can fall short into many waiting greenside bunkers.

Nestled in the desert foothills of the Tortolita Mountain Range, the 27 holes at The Golf Club at Dove Mountain feature dramatic elevation changes and stunning views. The three nines were all designed by Jack Nicklaus and are played in three different 18-hole combinations. The Wild Burro/Saguaro golf course combines Nicklaus’ favorite nine, Wild Burro, with the front nine of the Accenture Match Play Championship. The golf course features intricately contoured greens and carefully placed fairway bunkers. The course plays through canyons and desert washes covered in centuries-old Saguaro cacti. The third, fourth and fifth holes on the Wild Burro nine are notably challenging with the third featuring an “island green” standing amidst sand and cacti.

A little different from many desert courses, del Lago plays like more of a combination of links and desert golf, featuring wide sweeping fairways that drift off into the surrounding valleys and arroyos, and lead you to oversized greens that often require a traditional bump and run shot. Each nine offers either one of the many lakes that dot the course, or threads through well-placed bunkers that are waiting to catch the slightest mistake in approach shots. The golf course will require every club in the golfer’s bag and a good supply of nerves on slick, undulating greens.
Perceived to be far out of town, del Lago is really not, even though those who know about it would just as soon not tell you that. A short drive east from Tucson on I-10 to the Vail Road exit and you’re playing golf in just a few minutes. Future plans call for an elegant clubhouse and some exclusive home sites on the hills looking over the golf course. The time to play del Lago is now, for very soon you may have to wait in line as the popularity of this magnificent golf course grows

The Country Club of Green Valley borders the Santa Cruz River, wandering through the pecan groves that sit along the banks. The golf course is seemingly mild but don’t underestimate this 6,628-yard layout. It’s a scenic round but it is also a challenging one. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself using every club in your bag. Strategically placed bunkers frame every green and water comes into play on six holes. The 14th is arguably the toughest water hole. There is a lake that wraps around three sides of the green and the
